Private Conservation Grants Program

The Paddy Pallin Foundation is offering grants for holders of Conservation Covenanted land within New South Wales for works to improve habitat or species conservation on their land. Grants can be for $500 to $3000 per year to a maximum of three years.

These grants are offered in conjunction with the Foundation for National Parks and Wildlife (FNPW), the Humane Society International (HSI) and the Department of Environment and Climate Change (DECC).

These Grants are now closed for 2008.  The successful applicants have now been announced.  Click below to read more.  Applications will open for the 2009 round of grants in early 2009.

Who can apply and when?

Any landholder who has a Voluntary Conservation Agreement (VCA) or similar over their land. Applications closed on 30th June 2008

2008 Grant Recipients

 Private Land Conservation

  • Richard and Marion Armstrong of ‘The Old Cottage' in Floraville
    To control weeds in the rainforest after storm damage in an area inhabited by the threatened powerful owl.

  • John and Jane Bragg of ‘Wattle Park' in Invergowrie
    To remove weeds, stabilise creek banks and encourage native animals.

  • Colin and Anne Browne of ‘The Backwater' in Bermagui
    To control weeds and plant creek banks to enhance koala habitat.

  • Warwick Deacock of ‘Chakola' in the Kangaroo Valley
    To remove woody weeds using Conservation Volunteers Australia in an area inhabited by the endangered brush-tailed rock-wallaby. The work will be carried out by hand to reduce the use of herbicide and the risk of harming native species.

  • Bev and John Debrincat of ‘For Rest' in Crescent Heads
    To remove bitou bush and revegetate coastal sand dunes between Limeburners Creek Nature Reserve and Hat Head National Park. Their property is an important native habitat link for these areas."

  • Lawrence Ernst of ‘Calmhaven' in Woodburn
    To control lantana and invasive grasses in freshwater wetland, swamp oak and swamp sclerophyll forest.

  • Ralph and Barbara Harris of ‘Brushwood' in Tumbi Umbi
    To maintain previous bush regeneration in gully rainforest and open forest.

  • Richard Hastings of ‘Euvale' in Canyonleigh
    To plant a sub-storey of Acacia decurrens in 10 hectares of regrowth eucalypts and investigate the effect of the wattles in discouraging noisy miners and attracting small birds.

  • Richard Hughes of Mullumbimby
    To control lantana and vines in the rainforest and protect threatened flora and fauna species.

  • Geoff and Christine Ibbett of Farmborough Heights
    To control lantana, crofton weed and cape ivy to protect native flora.

  • Uralla Shire Council's Racecourse Lagoon
    To undertake an indigenous survey and develop community education packs highlighting indigenous usage and the conservation significance of Racecourse Lagoon.

  • Barrie Mac Millan of ‘Cooba' in Gol Gol
    To revegetate with 12 kilometres of direct seeding of local native plant species.

  • John and Lois Prior of ‘Cedar Ridge' in Condong
    To remove weeds in high conservation value rainforest.

  • Glen and Manola Schembri of Farmborough Heights
    To control lantana, crofton weed and cape ivy to protect native flora.

  • Mary White of ‘Falls Forest Retreat' in the Johns River
    To produce tree labels for an interpretive walking track.

  • Maxine Williams of Khsharthra in Crowther
    To replace barbed wire fences, trap feral cats and plant an understorey to protect endangered squirrel gliders and superb parrots.

  • Esme Wood of Galston
    To maintain previous bush regeneration in a remnant of turpentine-ironbark forest, which is an endangered ecological community.

The Private Land Conservation Grants are a co-funding initiative of the Foundation for National Parks & Wildlife, the Paddy Pallin Foundation, the Wildlife Land Trust and the Conservation Partners program of the NSW Department of Environment and Conservation.
